About Los Sombras

All of the streets in the neighborhood I grew up in had Spanish names. I don’t know what most of them translated to. I don’t remember ever thinking they were actual words that meant something. They were just really long street names that were difficult to convey to the pizza parlor when calling to place an order for delivery.

The street I lived on was Corte Los Sombras. That’s where all of my half-baked ideas and loose plans for what I might someday do with my life were born. Most of those dreams didn’t come true (which is just as well, because I’ll bet being a red VW Bug wouldn’t have been nearly as glorious as my 4-year-old brain made it out to be). But some of the interests that started on that street are still my favorite things today. It’s where I learned to ride a bike, where I wrote my first story, and where I brewed my first batch of beer. This site is a way of continuing all the things that started on Corte Los Sombras.

Oh, and eventually I did look up the meaning of the street name. “Los Sombras” means “The Shadows”. I don’t know about you, but I like it.
